forensics original oratory
I need to write a piece to present for theatre class next year. It can be about anything. Any good ideas?

Well, not exactly theatre– I’m in forensics (public speaking). Next year I’m competing in Original Oratory, which is where you write your own piece about anything you want, and then present it. It has to be 7-10 minutes long. Any good ideas???

So is this related at all to theater? Or is it a general public speaking class? Or is it in any way tied to your studies in Forensics?

I don’t wish to insult you, but have you no ideas at all? 7 to 10 minutes of oration could be a rather long tale.

Beyond that, what might be ANY general notion of usual themes presented? I suspect part of the concept involves an ability to deliver, publicly? It might also in some measure depend on the audience. EXAMPLE: One could ramble for 10 minutes on a subject, not at all relevant, or totally out of a context in something the speakers might be directed toward.

Original, is no more difficult than taking segments from every day life and presenting them, and if it’s only to judge delivery and stage presence, then anything could work, from Political diatribes, to comic monologues, to keeping the audience INVOLVED in something most timely and topical to them.

It’s a bit difficult for us, to offer anything YOU might best be comfortable with other than generalizing here.

10 minutes worth of

Clothes shopping with a mate
Gasoline prices, etc.
The general state of the economy
Best suggestions for controlling unruly children in a family
Driving lessons NOT in an on the road sense
Reciting a favorite recipe and the process
Dissection of the human body
etc.
etc.
etc.
